Minoxidil Facts

Know the in and outs of Minoxidil for your hair problem

Are you suffering from Androgenic alopecia, or baldness? A formulation of 5% Minoxidil has been effective in Androgenic alopecia.

What is Minoxidil and how popular is it?

Minoxidil is a liquid based organic solution used as a vasodilator medication.

Proven results with Minoxidil

Until the test results were shown, there was a common myth for decades that topical Minoxidil is effective for vertex only, not for your hairline hair loss. However, the usage of 5% topical Minoxidil solution had a good success rate with hairline or temple portion also, similar to the top of head. In fact, continuous use of Minoxidil for 32 weeks has shown drastic improvement in non-vellus hair counts. For women's hair loss, application of 2% concentrated solution is good enough.

Know the mechanism of action

Primarily how Minoxidil promotes hair-growth was not satisfactorily understood till now. However, as per speculations, Minoxidil encourages vasodilation. It means widening of blood vessels and opening of the potassium channel that invites oxygen, blood and important nutrients to hair follicles. It also speeds up the mitosis process (cell division of the follicles), especially the telogen phase and thus helps grow thicker hair.

How to apply Minoxidil

Since Minoxidil remains in alcoholic solution, it is better you avoid applying it on your hair strands. For optimum effect, apply it on the scalp directly, leave it for around four hours and wash out. You can also do hairstyling after the Minoxidil is dried.

Does it carry side effects?

Some common mild side effects have been reported like itching, irritation allergic action and swelling, in most of the cases it varies from patient to patient. There is no strong body resistance or potential health hazards against Minoxidil.
