Joint Pain Diseases

Joint Pain Diseases and Ailments

Treatment of any disease starts with correct identification of the symptoms. Similarly, for joint pain, knowing the reason of discomfort is the first step. As reported by experienced rheumatologists, above 85% of adults suffer from joint pain disease at some point in their lives.

It is so common, yet people can hardly avoid it through normal course of action. Painful joints should get early diagnosis and treatment from a good health-care provider. A good recommendation can address the underlying conditions causing your pain. Here are a few examples of diseases that could cause joint pain.

Joint Pain

Rheumatoid arthritis

This is an autoimmune disorder causing pain and stiffness in the joints. Women between the ages of 25 and 50 are the common victims of this disease. In this type of arthritis, the body immune system gets abnormal and works improperly causing inflammation in the lining of the joints (hands and feet) and other internal organs. This inflammation spreads through the immune cells in the bloodstream and results in pain and limited movement.

Osteoarthritis

This is the most common factor of joint pain. Close to 27 million Americans generally start developing these symptoms after the age of 40 and it slowly progresses. In Osteoarthritis, bones start rubbing against each other, and causes breakdown of cartilage in the joints. This generates joint pain, swelling, stiffness and finally damages the ability to function properly. Excess body weight only worsens the situation.

Gout

This happens due to a sudden breakout of excessive uric acid that in the form of crystal, deposits in the joints and cause severe pain, tenderness, redness and swelling. Gout generally affects the big toe (one joint at a time) and if left unattended can spread to other parts too.

Bursitis, osteoporosis, systemic lupus, and fibromyalgia can also cause joint pain.
